The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Debate Tournament took place in January and six members of the St. Francis High School Debate Team competed.
Jack Humphrey qualified in Congressional Debate. He lost a tie-breaker towards qualifying for the final round and finished in 14th place.
Two teams qualified for Policy Debate State. The team of Cailynn Inderlee and Ava Refsland placed as Section Champion and placed 23rd at State. Sydney Fiereck and Seth Strassburg and alternate Skyler Algiere (did compete at state) placed as Section Runner-Up and 24th at State.
Humphrey earned the Minnesota Debate Teachers Association All-State Award, which is given to the top eight season long performances in every single event. This is the first time a debater from SFAS has received this award in Congressional Debate and the first time since 2021 we have had a student awarded it.
In December, Humphrey competed at the National Qualifying Tournament and placed second in the Senate to qualify for nationals. Algiere placed third in the House and is the first alternate.
