Our two regional qualifying teams attended the State Economics Challenge yesterday in St. Paul at Securian Financial.
While our CIS/AP team was not able to make it into the quiz bowl round they all were able to improve their test scores from regionals. Elek Torok, Ethan Trieber, Otto Netteberg, and Henrik Lind were our AP/CIS team.
Our high school level economics team competed against Barnesville, Cotter, DeLaSalle, Eden Prairie, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, Saint Thomas Academy, and Ubah Medical Academy Charter School. They took three tests and scored higher than all but DeLaSalle.
This put them into the final quiz bowl round. Because DeLaSalle scored higher on the initial exams they received 2 points to start the quiz bowl. Our team battled well but came up short losing by 1 point in the end. Literally they missed one letter of one equation and that allowed DeLaSalle the win.
Even though they lost, 2nd in the state was pretty impressive for their first year. Kristen Gifford, Addisyn Halland, Joshua Spartz, Teagan Harmon, and alternate Sena Ruid were on this team. Please congratulate any of the participants as they put in a significant amount of time studying.
