SFHS Sleep Out: raise awareness - homeless youth
Posted 05/15/2018 11:14AM

Information about the Sleep Out to raise awareness about homeless youth

8:00 PM May 18th- 6:00 AM May 19th

The Homelessness Awareness Group will be hosting our first Sleep Out at St Francis High School on May 18th and 19th. This activity will give students an opportunity to experience what it is like to be homeless. The week prior to the event we will be in the commons during lunches on May 15thand 16th. We will have information for students regarding homelessness in the area and resources about local shelters. We will also be accepting canned goods for Cody's Closet and financial contributions for the Hope for Youth homeless shelter in Anoka MN.

Student who sign up for the Sleep Out will raise funds the week before. All funds will be donated to Hope for Youth. Students will arrive at the school by 8:00PM. We will have someone from Hope for Youth kick things off by talking about their program. We will also have a speaker who will share her personal story about how she overcame addiction and homelessness. The students will then engage in games regarding trying to find shelter. We will also be making blankets that we will donate to Hope for Youth.

How Can You Help:

We are still looking for Chaperones to help out overnight. Chaperones can sign up for 2 hour time slots.

You could also donate canned food. This will be given to Cody's Closet.

Any financial contributions will be given to Hope for Youth.
